Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday reviewed the post-quake scenario in the state at a meeting with senior officers and directed them to take all possible measures to meet any exigency. The Chief Minister underscored the need to create mass awareness among the people so that they could respond properly in case of any major tremor, an official release said.
Altogether 18 persons were admitted to the hospital, of which 11 were discharged after treatment, the release added. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister M G V K Bhanu among others. The Chief Minister later visited the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital where the quake victims were undergoing treatment and directed the superintendent and senior doctors to provide the best of medical care.
The early Monday morning quake, measuring 6.8 magnitude on Richter scale epicentred in Manipur, jolted Assam too causing damage to buildings and triggering panic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called up Chief Minister Gogoi in the morning and took stock of the situation.
