BHUBANESWAR: With the panchayat polls all set to be a tough test for the BJD to maintain its dominant position in State politics, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to hit the campaign trail after the filing of nomination papers is over.Naveen is likely to address public meetings at district headquarter towns and other important places to woo the voters. Sources in the party, however, said the campaign schedule of the Chief Minister is yet to be finalised. The contest for the Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats is going to be triangular as the BJD, the Congress and the BJP have decided to field candidates in all seats without alliances. Smaller players in the State politics, the Left parties and the NCP have also decided to contest polls in areas of influence. With the Congress planning to make a concerted effort to improve its poll performance, the BJD has decided to go whole hog to win a majority of seats. The party bigwigs had announced on the BJD’s foundation day celebrations that it would win between 450 and 600 seats out of  854 ZP seats.Naveen has asked the ministers and MLAs to take the panchayat polls seriously and consider it as mid-term test. It will be a trailer for the 2014 Assembly elections. The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD), youth wing of the party, has decided to launch an aggressive campaign on the issue of denial of special category State status to Odisha. The rejection of special category status and imposition of mineral resources rent tax (MRRT) demands has strengthened the stand of Central apathy of the BJD.Sources, however, maintained that the State level corruption issues are yet to percolate down to the thousands of villages and the panchayat polls will mainly be fought on local  issues. Naveen’s charisma still remains unrivalled in Odisha despite the number of scams in the State Government which have spilled into the open, an expert said.
