BHADRAK: Driver and conductor of a private bus were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping and murdering a 19-year-old college girl on Tuesday evening. Bhadrak SP Chintamani Panda said the girl was brought to Agarapada Community Health Centre (CHC) under Agarapada police limits by two youths.The doctor, however, declared her brought dead following which, the youths fled from the spot leaving the body behind.Receiving information from the hospital authorities, police rushed to the spot and identified the deceased as Susmita Palli of Ranipur village under Agarapada police limits. She was a Plus-II student of Bhadrak Autonomous College. The SP said that the girl was on way home from college in a private bus when she was allegedly raped and murdered by driver Raghunath Nayak and bus conductor Karthik Chandra Hajira.Their arrest came after the two youths - Bubuna Pattnaik and Bapunu Jena, both belonging to Bidyadharpur in Keonjhar district - revealed before police that they were standing with their motorcycle near Bidyadharpur when driver stopped the bus and asked them to take the girl to the nearby hospital ‘as she fell unconscious due to ill-health’. Accordingly, they took her to the CHC on their motorcycle only to be informed by the doctor that she had already died. A police team arrested both the accused from Boula area which was the last stoppage of the bus. Police are awaiting the autopsy report.
