Mumbai: Music director Nadeem Akhtar Saifee, who has been living in London after being accused of murdering industrialist Gulshan Kumar, has appealed in the Bombay High Court for withdrawal of arrest warrants and Interpol notices against him.
Nadeem and his partner Shravan (Rathod) earned huge success in the Hindi film industry in the 1990s as composers. Nadeem was in London when T-Series Industries owner Gulshan Kumar was murdered on September 12, 1997.
Nadeem is mentioned as the prime conspirator in the case. The warrants and Interpol Red Corner Notices were issued in September 1997 after the Indian government initiated extradition proceedings against him in Britain.
The petition, filed by his father Yunus Saifee, is likely to come up for hearing before a division bench on December 20.
The petition says that British courts had rejected the Indian government's extradition proceedings, but the warrants and the notices had hindered Nadeem's movement.
The petition said Nadeem feared that if he travelled outside Britain, he could be arrested or detained and a second innings of extradition against the principles of double jeopardy could be held against him.
Nadeem's father sought a direction from the court to the CBI to recall the Red Corner Notices against Nadeem and to take steps to ensure that his name is deleted from the list of absconding accused with the Interpol.
