KOCHI: The Health Department is coming up with a Decentralised Comprehensive Health Project to be submitted for the 12th Five Year Plan. As part of the initiative, the department organised a workshop here involving Health Department officials and representatives from various departments under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The attempt is to prepare a comprehensive health project at the state level by October after conducting discussions at various levels. The technical aid for implementing the project will be jointly provided by the KILA and the community wing of medical colleges.The officials pointed out that though there are a lot of achievements in the state’s health sector, there are certain challenges also. Many diseases are coming back and a number of new ones have been reported. The district-level project will be finalised after discussions at various levels starting from the wards. Various aspects, including local issues associated with diseases, their nature, how to control them and other related issues will be taken up during the discussions. Basic infrastructure development of health institutions in the district and ensuring the efficiency of hospitals would be part of the project. The officials from the Education Department, SSA, KILA, Social Welfare Department, Social Security Mission, Kudumbasree state programme manager Dr Jameela, additional director Dr Sreedhar, district medical officials, NRHM district programme managers and RCH officials also took part in the meeting.
