BANGALORE: The police Sub Inspector of Banashankari station, Dharmendra, opened fire at a chain snatcher, who tried to escape after snatching a gold chain from a woman. The incident was reported near Seva Kshetra Hospital in Banashankari on Friday evening.The accused Ravi alias Ravikumar, 30, has been admitted to Victoria Hospital. The police said that one, Mamata, who works in Sriram Chits office, was walking towards bus stop near Bata showroom in Banashankari third stage. Meanwhile, Ravi allegedly snatched her chain and started running. Mamata raised an alarm and started chasing him and she was joined by a flower vendor. As the duo were chasing Ravi, Dharmendra and police constable Gururaj, who were patrolling on a bike, chased Ravi.“Gururaj jumped and tried to nab Ravi, but the latter attacked the constable with a knife injuring his left hand. Meanwhile, Dharmendra shot a bullet from his service pistol at Ravi, who was running. The bullet struck Ravi’s leg and he collapsed. Later, he was shifted to Victoria Hospital,” the police said.
