City Police Commissioner JK Tripathy on Wednesday said that the police were following four accused in connection with the counterfeit currency rackets busted recently in the city.
He said that the arrest of the elusive quartet would lead them to the kingpin of the racket. “We have brought all the lodges under the radar for this,” he said.
On violence in city colleges, Tripathy said, “We have stepped up our patrolling. We have informed the college authorities that it would affect the future of the students. We are taking measures to prevent such violence.”
Asked about the string of murders for gain that remained unsolved, Tripathy maintained that the city police had been following the leads on those cases. He was confident that the six pending cases would be resolved in a short while.
Explaining the recent detections, Tripathy said a total of 262 criminals involved in 283 cases were arrested, resulting in the seizure of 1,378 sovereigns of gold jewels, 800 grams of silver articles and Rs 16,85,750 in cash.
“Apart from that, 18 four wheelers, three autorickshaws, two Eicher lorries, 17 two wheelers and 79 cellphones were also seized.
The estimated value of the recovered property is about Rs 3.60 crores.
In the above cases, 183 cases pertain to chain snatching in which 36 accused were arrested in west zone, 49 in east zone, 34 in south zone and 14 in north zone,” Tripathy said.
