Many disappointed with private courier services for missing items in mails and their delay in the delivery of packages...

BANGALORE: From the time of sending messages through pigeons, to the contemporary days of courier services, the need of the hour has been speedy and safe delivery of the packages be it messages or parcels.Today, we have come a long way from the traditional to the digital method but still we need a service that can deliver on time our precious packages and documents and that is being done by many private courier companies in the city. Earlier, only the Indian postal service was available to the common people who often were guilty of late delivery of services. The courier services are known for their high speed delivery of letters and packages. There are many courier companies in the city like FedEx, Professional, DHL and DTDC to name a few. But, today the services provided by these companies are declining with respect to speed and safe dispatching of packages. Many in the city complain about valuable items missing in the mails they recieve, while others complain about the delay in the delivering the packages. City Express interacted with the customers and the courier companies about the declining services.  Speaking about his experience with the Professional Courier services, B K Prasad, an advocate, said, “I sent an important official document to Delhi on 20 April, which was to be immediately delivered to the Pension Accounts office there. Even after 10 days, the parcel was not delivered which led to the delay in receiving the pension.”But with the advent of these services provided by big private companies has seen delivery of parcels and packages being delayed collectively at a particular place and the customers receiving their parcels after a long await. Refuting the above mentioned fact, Umesh C, who picks up the delivery from different DTDC customs office in the city added, “We deliver the packages as and when we receive it without delay. In rare circumstances, there are instances of late delivery of the packages.”He further added, “While accepting the parcel, the details of the content and the other valuable items are noted at the customs office. In a rare case of mishap, if the customer claims insuarance, the money will be reimbursed depending on the value of the item.”There are also instances where the customers have lost cameras, documents and and other valuable items. Many a time, the courier company does not hold responsibility for these misplacements. When Adhith M was shifting his possessions from his college hostel in Surat to Bangalore, he opted for a reputed packers and movers who run a courier service. On delivery, he found that his suitcase did not have any of his clothes but for a few bedsheets. after lodging a complaint, a few months later, the company however paid him Rs 3,000 as damages.  “It does not cover the costs of the belongings I’ve lost,” he says. In a similar case, journalist Gauvrav Jha found that a parcel containing a SLR camera reached him in Bangalore with missing lens. Officials of various private courier companies were either not available for comments or were unwilling to comment.
