CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is growing in influence in Tamil Nadu and had established itself as a force that was here to stay, CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan has said. Speaking at the inauguration of the party’s new State Committee office building, Ramakrishnan said the new building had been constructed to support the party’s growing activities.“There is no greater proof of our growth in Tamil Nadu since its inception in 1964. As we have grown we have worked out of a number of offices, each one bigger than its predecessor. The party has established itself surely, as a force that is here to stay,” said Ramakrishnan, to cheers from his cadre. The office building, named ‘P Ramamoorthi Ninaivagam’ in memory of the deceased CPM stalwart, was inaugurated by another stalwart, N Sankaraiah, in the presence of the top brass of the party’s state unit, and CPI state deputy secretary C Mahendran. The BJP state unit, which is headquartered a couple of gates away from the CPM’s new building also sent its best wishes, as BJP state president Pon Radhakrishnan made a courtesy call. That the two parties were sworn enemies on the political field was noted by one and all present. Leftist leaders who spoke at the function raised a call to the CPM cadre and its progenitor CPI to work together to ensure the alleviation of the working class and for the spread of socialism.
