BALASORE: The health authorities have swung into action against the unauthorised  clinical establishments in the district.  Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) S Iqbaluddin Ahmed has issued notices to the clinical establishments, mostly pathology laboratories functioning without a valid registration. In the notice, the CDMO has asked the patho lab proprietors to apply for licence in the proper form while depositing the required fees for the purpose. The notices were served in the wake of a report published in these columns on August 2. Over 250 patho labs, most of them without licence, are running in the district by practitioners who lack requisite qualification. “In pursuance of the Government of Orissa Clinical Establishment (Control and Regulation) Act, 1990 and 1994, published in the Gazette and Amendment Rules 2006, a person who intends to establish or maintain clinical establishment shall have to get a licence and deposit ` 10,000 for two years towards rent and renewal of licence fee,” the notice states. The CDMO will inspect accommodation, equipment, instruments, qualification of the persons employed in the clinical establishments at least twice a year. The CDMO said already 23 patho labs had been issued notices in Balasore and Soro and the rest would be sent in a day or two.  “They have been asked to act as per rules and regulation and comply in the next  seven days. In case of failure to respond to the notice, action will be initiated against the defaulters. If warrants are not heeded the unauthorised clinical establishments will be sealed,” he added.
