Curfew imposed in this violence-hit city for 12-hrs beginning eight in the morning has been extended for 12 more hrs.

Solapur (Maharashtra): Curfew imposed in this violence-hit city for 12-hours beginning eight in the morning has been extended for 12 more hours, a senior police official said on Saturday.

Curfew has been extended for 12 more hours after three days of tense situation and stone pelting incidents following the killing of a Dalit family at Khairlanji in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, Solapur Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamate said. He said curfew will be relaxed for three hours after the period.

Curfew, which was imposed in the city for 12-hours beginning eight on saturday morning, passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported, Kamate said.

Meanwhile, police have registered more than 200 cases as preventive measure. 61 people have been arrested and 156 have detained, Kamate added.

After reviewing the situation, further decision on the curfew will be taken tomorrow, he said. Police have taken up combing operation in various part of the city to nab those behind the stone pelting incidents.
