CWG: Badminton draw done, not released
The competition manager S. Muralidharan said it will be given to the media through the communication department.

New Delhi: The draw for badminton singles and doubles in the Commonwealth Games was done here on Saturday, but strangely it was not released.

While journalists waited for hours at the Siri Fort Sports complex for the draw, the competition manager S. Muralidharan said it will be given to the media through the communication department of the Organising Committee (OC).

"I am not authorised to release the draw. I have to send it to the OC and they will release it to the media," he said after the media was kept waiting for more than two hours.

However, even after hours of wait the OC did not release the draw.

When a technical committee member was contacted, he said the draw has been given to the Communications team for releasing it to the media.

"We have forwarded it to the Communications team. The draw will be put on the Commonwealth Games website and it will also be send as a release to the media."

The Communications team when contacted said they were clueless about it.

When Badminton Association of India president V.K.Verma was asked about the confusion, he said: "The chief referee (E.Henry of Singapore) will have to get the approval of the International Badminton Federation as a norm. I am not sure whether the chief referee has been able to get the approval because of the three and a half hour time difference. I have not been able to get through to him, so I cannot say anything."

Asked as to how the draws of tennis and table tennis were released in the last two days, he said: "I am sure that they must have got the approval of the respective federation."

What's your reaction?
