Nearly 80 employees of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), who fall under group ‘C’ and ‘D’, have not got their salaries since July this year. And with the government dragging its feet over the appointment of SHRC chairman and members, these employees fear that they won’t get their salaries anytime soon.
K H Malleshappa, registrar of SHRC told the Express, “In the absence of the cadre and recruitment rules for the SHRC, the nod from the commission chief is mandatory for releasing salaries for ad-hoc employees.”
The posts of chairman and members of the SHRC have been vacant since Justice S R Nayak completed his term, as the first head of the commission, on July 27 this year.
While the state government convened meetings of the selection panel comprising, Chief Minister, Home Minister, presiding officers of the both the Houses of the legislature and its Opposition leaders to finalise the appointments, it failed to finalise the names. “Everytime the state convenes meeting of the panel members, our hopes are rekindled. But they are short-lived,” a ‘D’ group employees told Express.
The government is aware of the problem and steps are being taken to release the salaries.
“Law and Parliamentary ministry has approved the release of salaries and the same has been sent to Finance Department for the sanction. Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has also cleared the file on the matter,” an official said.
