Dejected over life, three of family commit suicide

Dejected over life, a 40-year-old woman committed suicide along with her two children at her residence in Vidyamanyanagar in Andhrahalli under Tavarekere police station limits on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased have been identified as Sujatha, her daughter Meghana, 14, and son Madhu, 12. Meghana was an eight standard student at a private school while Madhu was seventh standard student.

Police said the neighbours found foul smell emanating from Sujatha’s residence and informed the police.

The police broke open the window of the house to find the three hanging from a ceiling fan.

“It is suspected that the three took the extreme step on Sunday night, as the bodies were in decomposed state. It appears like the three decided to commit suicide together. Sujatha was married to Kumar, a painter, about 15 years ago. He had deserted the family about seven years ago. Probably, this had led Sujatha and her children to depression and they might have decided to take the extreme step dejected over life,” the police explained. The reason for suicide is yet to be ascertained. The Tavarekere police have registered a case of unnatural deaths in this connection and are further investigating.
