KOCHI: The various associations related to the development activities of Kochi have submitted the list of long-pending demands of the city for the betterment of existing railway connectivity to P Rajeev MP. The list will be handed over to the Union Minister for Railways who will visit Thiruvananthapuram on September 19, the MP said. The major demands include the revamping of old Ernakulam Rail Station to a suburban hub station. “Once renovated, the station with a historical importance can be used as a multi-mode interchanging for urban transport,” he added.Another demand is the renovation of the Harbour Station. “If the Harbour Station is revamped and the line is electrified, services can be extended to Harbour and Mundamveli,” he said.He said that the modernisation of Ernakulam south station is another demand. The office-bearers of various associations include the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Merchants Union, Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samiti, EDRAAC and RACE took part in Saturday’s meeting.
