Industrialist Ratan Tata on Thursday urged the Centre to consider special relief measures like those during national calamities for the poor hit by the demonetisation drive.
"While the government is doing its best to increase availability of new currency notes, it may be worthwhile to consider special relief measures similar to those employed at times of national calamities to serve the poorer segment of the population for their daily needs," Tata said in a note he tweeted.
The note 'Some Further Thoughts on Implementation of Demonetization Program' said this would show that the Government cares and has not forgotten the needs of the common man.
"The present note ban is said to be causing great hardship to the common man, particularly relating to medical emergencies, major surgical interventions, and the procurement of medication at many hospitals in smaller towns," the Tata Sons interim Chairman wrote.
On November 22 Tata had tweeted, praising the Modi government's decision to withdraw Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes: "Demonetisation of old currency notes by the Modi government is a bold act that will wipe out black money and corruption. It deserves our support."
In Thursday's tweet, Tata also acknowledged the effort put in by the government saying it was doing its best to increase the availability of new currency notes.
