A woman dies of ‘dengue’ at ESI Hospital in the city on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Dakshayini (28).
Relatives of the deceased took her body, placed it in front of BBMP office and staged a protest, claiming that the death was due to Dengue. They blamed the civic body for not doing enough to fight the disease. Dakshayini was admitted to the hospital 10 days ago and reports later confirmed that it was a dengue case, claimed Ganesh, her husband.
Dakshayini was a contract pourakarmika worker and a resident of Chamarajpet. According to ESI Hospital sources, she died of dengue shock syndrome and her platelet count was low when she was brought to the hospital. She was also diagnosed with multi-organ failure. Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy said, “I don’t think Dakshayini suffered from dengue,” He handed a cheque of `15,000 as a relief to the family of the victim. Murthy said that the family will receive compensation from
the government.
