Mumbai: Hours after Pune cops said they had unearthed a Maoist plot to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi, two threat letters addressed to the office of Maharashtra’s chief minister have surfaced.
The anonymous letters posed a threat to the life of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and his family members. The security around the CM’s office has been beefed up, officials said.
The letters were allegedly sent by Maoist organisations and have been handed over to the police, sources in the state Home Department said.
According to officials, the letter was in retaliation to the encounter in Gadchiroli in April in which 39 Maoists were killed.
The letter reportedly stated that 'killing of few comrades will not stop the revolution'. The letters were received by the chief minister's office a week ago, they said.
Of the 39 Maoists killed in the encounter, three were high-ranking commanders of Naxals and seven were women. The letters have been handed over to the police for further investigations," the sources said.
