MADURAI: Allegations about police interference raised by the officials of the Dhaya Cyber Park, owned by family members of Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M K Alagiri, were nothing but a “white lie”, Madurai Superintendent of Police (SP) Asra Garg has submitted before the Madras High Court Bench here.In a counter affidavit to a petition filed by the company’s representative R Manikandan in August, the SP said: “The claim of the petitioner that the respondents are initiating criminal cases and investigating the same is nothing but a creation of their own mind.”The petitioner had alleged that though the cyber park was established on a land that was legally purchased, the police were spreading false information about the directors of the property. “The police are facilitating the media to publish false news articles and news as if the properties purchased by the petitioner company, is illegal and the respondents (police) are also trying to subject the directors for investigation,” Manikandan had alleged.Strongly denying the allegation, Garg submitted: “The contention of the petitioner that the respondents are frequently visiting their properties is also a white lie. There is no need for us to go and visit the properties of the petitioner. If at all a criminal case has to be registered, it can be registered even without visiting the said properties.” According to Garg, the police had only verified a petition submitted by one V V Subramaniam of Uthangudi. The complainant had alleged that the infamous Coimbatore-based lottery dealer Martin had, in 2001, with the help of some officials usurped 17 acres of land belonging to the ‘Nagar Alayam Trust’ administered by Subramaniam’s family members. Later in 2010, ownership of a part of this land was transferred to the Union Minister’s wife Kanthi Alagiri. The complainant alleged that Alagiri’s aides had threatened him and his family when they had objected to the land transaction. The SP said that after conducting an inquiry into the petition, the police concluded that the dispute was purely civil in nature and did not reveal any criminal offence. “The Madurai district Police has no intention to interfere in a civil suit,” Garg submitted and prayed the court to dismiss the petition and admonish petitions for filing a “false writ petition.”
