New Delhi: The Mumbai daily, Mid-day, which had first reported that there was trouble brewing between Rahul Mahajan and his new bride, on Tuesday reported that Shweta Singh had first approached one of their reporters to help her find a lawyer so she could make her last will and testament.
The new twist in the story was reported by the daily, just a day after they claimed that Rahul Mahajan used to regularly beat up Shweta.
The daily reported that Shweta was "beset with doubts and feared the worst for herself. She was no longer certain why Rahul wooed her and then married her in such haste."
Shweta allegedly told the reporter of the daily that "while on a visit to Mumbai, the verbal violence, which she had been subjected to, had finally turned physical."
The daily claims that Shweta wanted to make a will because Rahul was "spending her money like water - making her pay for his car insurance (a hefty sum of Rs 1 Lakh per month) as well as the salary for one of his key aides."
Her fears - according to the daily - took root when Rahul asked her what she had done with all the money that she had earned as a pilot over the last 10 years.
The paper also reports that Rahul's family never stood by her "not even calling me to wish me on my first Karva-chauth fast or buying me the requisite jewellery and trinkets."
Reports also stated that she was afraid to go to Mumbai alone now because her wedding had exposed her to his "uncontrollable and inexplicable anger".
The daily claims that Shweta had said that she was uncomfortable with the fact everything that had been taken out from the bungalow at 7, Safdarjung Road (before it was handed back to the Government) was dumped in her apartment.
Meanwhile, the BJP, which had stood beside Rahul Mahajan after his alleged involvement in a drug case, chose to keep silence on reports of his alleged physical and verbal abuse of his wife.
"When Poonam Mahajan became member of the BJP, it was very clear that she would be carrying forward Pramod Mahajan's political legacy in the party. As far as her brother is concerned, the BJP has nothing to say on reports about his family life as he does not belong to the party officially," a party source said.
