HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is in the process of giving final touches to the draft master plan for the city.The master plan is expected to be ready in about a week and the same would be placed before the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy before June-end for approval. Suggestions given by him would be included in the master plan followed by public suggestions and objections.The master plan is being prepared by the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University, Ahmedabad.Speaking to Express HMDA officials said as per directions of Kiran Reddy, they have incorporated enhancement of the green belt cover and increase of road width of the Regional Ring road. A team of HMDA officials had visited Bengaluru earlier and studied the green belt zone and Ring road being implemented there and decided to use some aspects suitable to Hyderabad.The draft master plan covers an area of 5,965 sq km which includes the extended area of HMDA (5,018 sq km), Outer Ring road growth corridor (330 sq km), part of erstwhile Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (432 sq km), part of Hyderabad Ai rpor t Development Authority (about 186 sq km).The plan projects a population of 1.84 crore in the city by 2031.Officials added that the plan would include aspects like transit-oriented development, creating alternative centres, rural-urban continuum, peri-urban development, provision of social amenities and environmentally suitable development.The Regional Ring road is going to be around 290 km long and connect major national highways like NH-9, NH-7 and NH-202. Once the project is operational, those residing on city outskirts, won't have to travel to city to get on highways.The RRR will connect Farooq Nagar, Daudguda, Gundlaguda, Rachlur, Ibrahimpatnam, Bibinagar, Bommalaramam, Mulugu, Wargal, Toopran, Dunti, Shivampet, Narasapur, Daulatabad, Isamailpet, Eddumailaramam, Shankarapply, Chevella, Tadlapalle and Shahbad.In the master plan, 35 urban centres have been proposed which will have mixed areas of residential, commercial and institutional development and contain low, medium and high-rise residential areas.Rail freight corridors have been proposed at Timmapur, Bhongiri and Ravulapally while logistic hubs will come up at Somaram, Rudraram and Batasingaram.
