CHENNAI: Fisheries Minister K A Jayapaul announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that the State would setup a corpus fund to sponsor bachelor degree programmes and technical education, including medicine, engineering, veterinary science, agriculture and aqua-culture for the wards of the fishermen who go missing or die while fishing.He said that full-fledged fishing docks would be setup at several coastal points at a cost of Rs 50 crore with NABARD’s assistance.“The quantity of subsidised kerosene will be enhanced to 250 litres from 200 litres, which is meant to be used in external motor fit boats in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari and 100 litres of kerosene will be provided in open market price,” he said.Infrastructure of government fish farms and nurseries will be upgraded at a cost of `60 crore aided by NABARD and NADP.
