Efforts on to divide Veerashaiva community
Former chief minister compares himself to Veerendra Patil, says he too suffered a lot of injustice

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday said that a systematic effort is being made to divide the Veerashaiva community by some vested interests and he was one of the victim of such a conspiracy.

“Like former chief minister Veerendra Patil, I have also suffered a lot of injustice. The Veerashaiva community is known for treating all communities equally and Veerashaiva mutts have been providing education to the students of all castes. But unfortunately efforts are being made to divide the community,” Yeddyurappa said during a function where senior Congress leader Shyamanur Shivashankarappa took charges as the national president of All-India Veerashaiva Mahasabha here on Monday.

Interestingly Yeddyurappa, all these days, used to take the example of Veerendra Patil on how he was deserted by his MLAs immediately after losing power to boast his popularity. “Patil had none to back him, but I am enjoying the support of over 60 MLAs even a year after I demitted the office,” he used to say.

Former president of Mahasabha and former minister Bheemanna Khandre referred Yeddyurappa as the “Commander-in-chief” of Lingayat community and said that the community would back him in which ever party he is in future.

On his part Shyamanur who is also hoping to become the president of the KPCC called upon sub-sects of Lingayat communities to unite leaving behind their differences to emerge as a force.
