Elangovan hits out at dravidian parties

CHENNAI: Congress leader and former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan on Wednesday hit out at the Dravidian parties, the DMK and AIADMK and wanted the youth to emulate selfless leaders such as Periyar and Kamaraj.Speaking at a book release function here, Elangovan said leaders such as Periyar, Rajaji, Kamaraj and EVK Sampath were icons of selfless service. Stating that the State witnessed all round development during the rule of Congress stalwart Kamaraj, he said leaders like Kamaraj strove hard to fulfil the aspirations of the common man. Avoiding mentioning names, he asked: “Today you see people unabashedly giving a hero’s welcome to someone who spent time in Tihar jail on graft allegations. What kind of politics is this?” He urged the youth to take a leaf out of the lives of leaders like Kamaraj to serve the nation. Earlier, he released three books — Sampath matrum Kannadasan Parvayil Periyar, Kannadasan Pettigal and Kannadasan Enum Anubava Pudayal — authored by Congress functionary R P Sankaran.
