CHENNAI: There’s good news for tipplers! The city is likely to get the much-awaited TASMAC elite liquor shops by the third week of this month.The places where these shops are to come up include Arcot Road in Kodambakkam, Velachery, Chennai - Tirupati High Road in Padi (opposite Britannia) and Spencer Plaza. Negotiations are on with owners of buildings in a few other areas.This apart, another such outlet is coming up along the East Coast Road in Mamallapuram, which is thronged by domestic and international tourists.“We are considering AC facility for these shops in order to woo well-off sections,” a senior TASMAC official said. “While the existing TASMAC wine shop at Spencer Plaza would be converted into an elite shop, talks are on to open an outlet at the Express Avenue Mall,” another official said. These outlets will offer 66 premium Indian Made Foreign Liquor brands, including Caesar Premium brandy and Mc Dowell Celebrations rum. Also, TASMAC is set to treat its customers with 60 international brands such as Lindeman Red Wine, Blavod Vodka, Jack Daniel Whisky, J&B Rare Whiskey, Corona Beer and Heineken Beer to name a few. According to TASMAC sources, beer will be priced anywhere between Rs 145 and Rs 155, while other liquor varieties range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,300 in these shops. Electronic bills will be issued to consumers.More Regular Shops TASMAC is also planning to open 12 new TASMAC shops by the end of this month in Chennai and four outlets in each district in the rest of the State.
