Emotional reunion for YC leaders

HYDERABAD The mini brainstorming session held by Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao at Jubilee Hall here on Saturday to find ways of strenghtening the Congress in the state also became a trip down the memory lane for former youth Congress leaders.

Former presidents, general secretaries and office-bearers of the state’s youth wing of the party who have been in the party since 1972,  recalled their role in the agitations launched in the past.

The sessions witnessed emotional moments as some of them met their peers after several years. But, several of them expressed their displeasure over the “sorry state of affairs” in the party now. “I worked in the Youth Congress actively from 1972 to 74. Later, I served the Congress. We used to spend our own money for the sake of the party.

Now the situation has changed a lot. Some of the present-generation leaders in the Congress are looting public funds and amassing wealth,” said Sunkara Murali, a former Youth Congress leader who has quit politics.

Another leader said several Congress leaders were seldom visiting the party’s state headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan. Instead, they are holding meetings at five-star hotels. After all, they were amassing wealth taking advantage of their party positions, he said.
