A private emu farm owner in Erode district, who allegedly
cheated a large number of people of crores of Rupees by promising them
lucrative returns on investments in commercial rearing of the bird, was
arrested today.M S Guru, owner-cum Managing Director of Susi Emu Farm, was
arrested from Hogenakkal, about 60 kms from here by the Economic Offences wing
of Tamil Nadu police.Police said cases under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 406
(criminal breach of trust) and 120B (conspiracy) were registered against Guru
and some others, on complaints from investors.A court in Erode district had last month rejected Guru's
anticipatory bail plea.Guru, his family members and some officials of the firm had
been absconding since last month after a large number of investors filed
complaints with police stating that the farm had not been paying them monthly
payments as promised. They said they had invested huge amounts in the farm after
being assured a monthly income of over Rs 6,000 per investor.
