KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Thursday asked the State Government to ensure that appropriate steps were taken for the disaster management in Sabarimala during the Makaravilakku festival.The court passed the order in the wake of a tragedy at Pulmedu on the Makaravilakku day last year, in which 102 pilgrims lost their lives. It also directed the government to take prompt action in case of any eventuality. A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar directed the Travancore Devaswom Board, State Government and all other departments to ensure that all safety measures were taken and provision for food and drinking water was made.The court further said that the KSEB and the Fire and Rescue Services should also pitch in. It also asked the police to ensure that it was fully geared up for the crowd management. The officers shall be personally responsible in the event of any failure, the court held.
