Though sisters Esha and Ahana perform together on the stage several times in a year, putting on their ghungroos to put up a fine performance in honour of their late grandmother after five long years brings back fond memories. Once again their mother Hema Malini will be organising Jaya Smriti, an evening of classical dance, performed by young talented dancers as well as her two daughters.
Both Esha and Ahana are happy that it is in honour of their grandmother Jaya Chakravarti that they will be dancing together again. Speaking to IBNLive, Esha says, “It is a very special feeling. Our grandmother was an art lover. She always encouraged young talent.”
Ahana feels that dancing at an event dedicated to Jaya makes her more involved in the dance. She says, “It is very sentimental to dedicate the dance to our grandmother. It will be a moment full of so much love.”
Though Jaya Chakravarti passed away in 2005, both sisters remember her very fondly. Ahana recalls the way how her singing would make her grandmother break into splits of laughter. She reminisces, “My grandmother never expressed her love for my mother by hugging her. But I could easily sit on her lap and she would love it. There was one Tamil song that I remember that I would sing when she was angry and it would make her laugh.”
Esha feels that several of her grandmother’s characteristics have worked their way into her. She explains, “I am very hot tempered like her and also impatient. But I have also imbibed the love for arts and painting. And I have a great sense of humour like her.”
Their mother Hema, Esha and Ahana feel has been a perfect daughter – by taking forward Jaya’s love for the arts. The two sisters admit they too want to be perfect daughters. Esha says, “When we were growing up, we saw how our mom respected her mother. Ahana and I are very obedient and firm believers in what we do.” She laughs and adds, “When we were in school, we used to avoid going for our dance classes but today we have learned its importance.”
