Stepping Stone I started my career with a tele-film Lage Sabu Nua Nua for DD1 in 2003. It dealt with a teenage love story and I played the teenage girl. The makers of the tele-serial had seen me during a cultural function in Rayagada where my parents were based then and offered me the role. Initially, I was not sure if I wanted to do it as I was pursuing my graduation then. But later on, they convinced my parents about it and I agreed. There was no looking back after that. A year later, I got my first mega-serial Mahajagyan with ETV Odia.First Ollywood ProjectI was doing just serials for two years when I got a supporting role for Dharma Ra Heba Jay in 2005. I played the character of a young bubbly college-going girl who is the sister of the lead actor. The role was short and sweet. Since then, I have done nine Odia films.Small Screen vs BigI don’t think any actor can differentiate between the small screen and big screen because at the end of the day, it all boils down to good acting. Whatever roles I have been offered till today, be it of a supporting character or the lead, I tried to give my 100 per cent. Personally, I feel the Odia film industry is an extension of the small screen. It’s just that the actors are allowed few takes compared to the television industry and the craze for films is any day more than TV serials.Choosing RolesI accept films or serials only if I am sure that I would do justice to the character. I do not have a very long list of films, but I am glad that whatever roles I have done till today are all meaningful. Challenges So FarI had no godfather in either the Odia television or film industry to help me establish. So, I had to face my share of difficulties in this nine-year stint. Overcoming them and getting myself some quality roles was quite an arduous task. The journey so far has been a good learning experience because of the people I have met in both the industries and what I learn from them.Memorable RolesIn Ollywood, one of my most memorable roles is from the film Aila Re Odia Pua, directed by Ranjan Mishra and Biswajit Mohanty, in 2009. I played the roles of a daughter, a lover, a wife and then a mother. Though it was challenging, I was given a chance to portray my best. My roles in movies like E Mana Manena, Nei Jaa Re Megha Mate and Chaka Chaka Bhaunri are also close to my heart. In the television industry, my first mega-serial is my favourite till date. Present assignementAt present, I am shooting for Bada Ghara Bada Gumara Katha, again for ETV Odia. Besides, I have been offered an Odia movie but I cannot reveal the details as nothing has been finalised yet.
