HYDERABAD: Farmers from the Konaseema area of East Godavari district walked out of a meeting with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday and refused to withdraw their decision to observe a crop holiday in the Godavari districts.They expressed dissatisfaction over the talks and accused the government of not making sincere efforts to solve their problems.A group of farmers from Konaseema called on the chief minister at his camp office on Thursday evening and held discussion on the demand for grant of `10,000 per acre as input subsidy apart from implementation of the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Committee for protection of the farmers. Reddy is learnt to have told them that he would look into their demands only after the committee headed by retired chief secretary Mohan Kanda submitted its report. Irked, the farmers walked out of the meeting shouting against the government.Earlier, the farmers had met deputy chief minister and agriculture minister C Damodara Rajanarasimha at his chambers and explained about the reasons for their declaration of crop holiday. They declared that they would not go back on their decision unless the government met their demands and assured farmers of their financial safety.Minister for animal husbandry and dairy development P Viswaroop, who attended the two meetings, said the government was committed to resolving the problems faced by farmers. A handful of farmers were trying to politicise the issue notwithstanding the assurances from the chief minister, he said.
