The state government will move things on a fast track and the projects that will be presented at ‘Emerging Kerala’ which do not require Union Government and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances will be sanctioned within three months. Announcing this here on Saturday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the government does not want any projects to get delayed owing to red-tapism.
“But that does not mean that each and every project will be given nod by the state. Every project will be closely scrutinised by the Investment Clearance Board. An environmental impact assessment study will be carried out for necessary projects,” Chandy said here at a media briefing.
The Chief Minister reiterated that paddy fields will not be levelled for any project.“Emerging Kerala is not an investment meet in the conventional sense. It is not an exclusive gathering of investors and we are not holding this event with the sole purpose of signing memorandum of understandings (MoUs) and agreements. More than that, it is a platform to highlight the strengths of the state as an investor-friendly destination to the world,” Chandy added.
The Chief Minister also said that the government has no intention of selling any state-owned land to private parties for any of these projects. Land will only be provided on lease with secure agreements, and absolute ownership will remain with the state government. “We only support ventures that are eco-friendly and non-polluting. For medium and mega projects that need a built-up space of over 20,000 sq ft, clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the State Pollution Control Board is mandatory,” he said.
Industries Minister P K Kunhalikkutty and Minister for Rural Development K C Joseph were also present.
