HYDERABAD: A film producer, who cheated several people of more than Rs 2 crore and was not attending court trials, was today nabbed by the Task Force sleuths executing a non-bailable warrant (NBW) pending against him.Fifty-two-year-old D Achyutha Reddy, of Mahabubnagar district, came to the city 20 years back and developed contacts with people in the film industry. He launched Kakatiya Publications and also established a cardboard company at Santhi Nagar. With the help of his contacts in the film industry, Reddy decided to produce Telugu films and took loans amounting to Rs two crore from various persons. “With the loans, he produced films like Aayana Six Tenns, Athadu+Aame = 9 Nelalu and also a television serial, Ashila. Apart from this, he started a dubbing studio in the name of Achyutha Reddy DAR studio in the city. All his films bombed leading to loss and he avoided paying back the loans and the cheques he gave to the lenders got dishonoured in the banks,’’ Task Force Additional deputy commissioner of police Dr K Raghuram Reddy said.Police said the producer was involved in 27 civil cases in the city alone. He got convicted in 14 of them and went for appeal against the convictions in the High Court. Eleven cases are pending in various courts in the appeal stage.  Apart from these, he is also involved in five criminal cases for cheating people by taking loans and failing to pay them back.“Achyutha Reddy was absconding since long as he was convicted by the VII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court which sentenced him to one year simple imprisonment. On the directions of the court, we executed the NBW,’’ Raghuram Reddy said.
