BOUDH: At least 142 houses were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in Fakirpur village in Harbhanga block of the district on Thursday night.Fire brigade from Boudh and Charchack were pressed into service and it took them more than three hours to bring the flames under control.The fire has affected 70 families.Harbhanga Tehsildar Nabin Naik supervised relief and rescue operation. The victims were provided dry food.Boudh Collector Mahendra Mallick also visited the village on Friday and directed for all possible help to the affected families.PHULBANI: Over 100 houses were gutted at Pradhanpada village under Khajuripada block on Thursday.The fire started in the house of one Pradeep Pradhan and soon spread to adjacent houses with thatched roofs. The raging fire soon engulfed the houses before fire brigade could reach the village. It took the firemen four hours to control it, said the District Fire Officer, Birabhadra Tudu.Khajuripada BDO Sesadev Mishra said 30 families have been badly affected.The victims were provided dry food and polythene that evening.They will also be provided immediate monetary help, he added.
