HYDERABAD: The proposal to set up fish, chicken and mutton stalls at Rythu Bazaars has been cancelled, as the Agricultural Marketing department felt it was a violation of their main norm to mediate between vegetable farmers and customers. “The AP Agriculture Marketing department has decided to cancell setting up of fish, chicken and mutton stalls at 106 Rythu Bazars across the state,” said PS Pradyumna, chief executive officer of Rythu Bazars. “In December 2011, the department had informed all estate officers to make out a plan to set up fish, chicken and mutton stalls but now it has decided to shelve the proposal,” he added. The CEO also said the department has been focusing to bring more benefits for vegetable farmers and their customers. “The department felt that fish, chicken and mutton stalls would adversely affect the vegetable business,” Pradyumna said. Estate officers of Rythu Bazars also felt setting up of chicken and fish stalls would not be helpful for genuine farmers. KV Vijay Kumar, estate officer of Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazar said, “There are not enough stalls selling fish, chicken and mutton and moreover they occupy more space.”Pradyumna also said members of Self-Help Groups and middlemen who reportedly occupy 75 percent of space at the bazars should renew their licences as soon as possible as they did not renew them since they were set up in 1999.
