Lahore: Five persons, including a woman and two children, were injured in three consecutive low-intensity blasts in Lahore on Tuesday, said the witnesses and rescue workers said.
The blasts occurred within a span of 15 minutes in three shops in the Garhi Shahu area, witnesses said. The first two blasts occurred at juice shops while the third hit a hairdressing salon.
Special Superintendent of Police (Operations) Chaudhry Shafique told reporters that all the blasts were of low intensity.
The third blast occurred after a bomb disposal squad reached the area, damaging its vehicle.
Witnesses and a police official said a woman and two children were among the injured.
Police cordoned off the area and ambulances rushed to the site of the blast to ferry the injured to hospital. Bomb disposal experts scoured the area for more explosive devices that could be hidden in the area.
Garhi Shahu has a mix of private homes and commercial outlets and is usually crowded till past midnight. The blasts caused panic in the city and people rushed back home.
Pakistan has been rocked by a wave of bomb blasts and suicide attacks since July last year. A suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad last month killed nearly 60 people, including the Czech Ambassador.
