GUNTUR: As many as five daily waged labourers, including four women, were killed and two others were injured seriously when the wall of a five-storied building collapsed at Donka Road here on Thursday.The deceased were identified as Kommera Lakshmi (24), Kommera Vara Lakshmi (27), Orsu Nagamani (23), Derangula Padma (22) and Kommera Venkateswara Rao.The injured, A Nageswara Rao and K Venkateswara Rao, were admitted to the Government General Hospital.The management of Narayana e-techno school, which applied for permission one month ago, started construction while the application was till pending with the municipal corporation. Municipal commissioner K Sudhakar said the GMC served a notice on the school management 15 days ago seeking explanation for violation of rules.The workers, who are from Srikakulam district, are living at NTR colony for the last three years. Labour contractor Vasanta Rao picked them up from the colony and dropped them at the work place at 7.45 am on Thursday. They started digging close to a wall and when they reached a depth of 12 feet, the wall collapsed on them.There was no scope to rescue them, said Nageswara Rao, who was also injured in the incident.Minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad, who visited the scene, told the municipal commissioner to take immediate action against the culprits.District collector V N Vishnu, RDO Senapati Delli Rao, Guntur-2 MLA SK Mastan Vali, MLC Rayapati Srinivas and IG Harish Kumar Gupta visited the spot.
