New Delhi: Heavy rains have spoilt the season of festivals in parts of India. Skies opened up and flooded the entire northern and central Karnataka and the Rayalaseema part of Andhra Pradesh.

Temples, power stations, road, rail, schools, hospitals and thousands of villages went under water. The two southern states are now battling the fury of mother nature.

Unseasonal rain have hit 10 districts in Karnataka and four in Andhra Pradesh.

74 people have died in Karnataka and 16 in Andhra Pradesh so far. Over 2, 00, 000 may be displaced and the standing crop in lakhs of acres has gone under water.

The road and rail transport in the region has been badly hit and halted. Famous religious place Mantralaya has been cut off from rest of the world. Karnataka's major power plant RTPS has shut down due to waterlogging and related problems.

Both, the Karnataka and the Andhra Pradesh governments have finally woken up to the emergency and have sought help from the Army, Navy and Airforce for rescue and relief operations.

10 Indian Air Force flights from Yelahanka airbase in Bangalore and six from Secundarabad in Andhra Pradesh have been sent for emergency rescue operations.

Experts from the central agencies have also rushed to worst hit areas in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Ironically, the worst hit districts were facing drought like situation just over a month ago. The killer rain has now added to their misery by destroying whatever crop they had managed to raise even in adversity.
