CHENNAI: “Education today has become brand- oriented,” said the Correspondent of Guru Nanak College, Sardar Manjit Singh Nayar. During the inauguration ceremony of an inter-college MBA meet organised by the department, he said, MBA aspirants are required to be multifaceted in handling different tasks efficiently. He advised the students that once they step out of their college into the real world, they must be ready to apply these skills in real life.Speaking to City Express, Nayar said, most college students are first generation learners in our country. One must not confuse education with brand building and added that only in business, brand building comes first. When it comes to imparting education to society, there should not be any brand building process involved, said a proud Nayar. He compared the quality of education today to that of education in the early 70s. The time devoted by students to extra-curricular activities and equipping them with other talents has drastically fallen. The need of the hour, according to Nayar, is educational institutions emphasising on providing quality education and at the same time, training students to develop multi-disciplinary skills. The event will give students a first-hand experience in time and event management, said Marlene Morais, the Principal of the college. The preliminary rounds of every event is handled by the student committee, while the finals is handed over to event guests, she said. Students from 27 colleges took part in the event.
