BANGALORE: As per directions from the Karnataka High Court, the State Forest Department will invite experts from Kenya and other countries to seek opinions regarding relocation of about 25 elephants from Alur Forest range and Sakleshpur in Hassan district to Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary.“We will send a letter stating the details to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) today”, said B K Singh, principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife).Speaking during the inauguration of workshop on non-timber forest produts on Tuesday, he said, “Various scientific reports presented about two years ago have shown that the elephants in these regions have no future and about an year ago, two elephants were captivated and taken to Bandipur. However, they had come back. But recently the MoEF had issued a circular to identify the family and relocate them family-wise. This would minimise the chances of elephants to come back.”However, the circular and reason did not satisfy the High Court, which issued an order that the matter should be discussed extensively with more experts before taking a decision.Commenting on the issue, C P Yogeshwar, Minister for Forests said, “The matter is in the Court. Recently the PCCF (Wildlife) were in Kenya to study the elephant management pattern. As decided by the Court, the hearing will be held on December 5. The elephant corridor in Hassan will be rebuilt,” he explained.
