MYSORE: After sand and rice, now the free television sets distributed by the previous DMK government are being ‘smuggled’ to neighbouring states and sold at a throw away price. A proof to this is the free televisions given in Tamil Nadu during the DMK regime are available for a paltry cost in Mysore. Brand new sets are sold for Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per set in black market and the sale is in a feverish pitch. The packed television sets covered with polythene bags have come as a ‘great gift’ to slum dwellers and the poor here. In fact, it is a windfall for bachelors staying in rented rooms as they grab the sets instead of shelling out money on branded models in the open market.
