COIMBATORE: A 19-year-old college student committed suicide in her college hostel room here on Friday as her parents did not permit her to marry her lover.S Sneha Devi (19), was studying first year BBM in Sri Narayana Guru College at KG Chavadi, while her family was in Mumbai. On Friday, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room and the college management rushed her to a hospital. Police recovered a suicide note written by her from her room. “She was in love with one of her relative and was insisting her parents to permit to marry him. She had taken the extreme step as her parents refused to give permission,” a police officer said.Sneha Devi hanged herself using a ‘duppatta’ after three of her roommates left for lunch. The incident came to light when the roommates returned after lunch.Police said, Sneha was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where the doctors referred her to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in a critical condition. However she was declared brought dead at the CMCH. An autopsy was performed on the body of the deceased on Saturday and it was handed over to her parents on Saturday.
