Gleneagles, Scotland: Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez and England's Tommy Fleetwood shared the lead on 16-under after the third round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles on Saturday.
Gonzalez, who is ranked 352nd, grabbed four birdies to shoot a 2-under 70, while the 22-year-old Fleetwood started birdie-eagle but also bogeyed the last in a 5-under 67.
Gonzalez has led from the outset on the 2014 Ryder Cup course as he seeks to end a four-year European Tour victory drought.
"After hitting the ball well the first two days from fairway to flag, my game wasn't that good today," Gonzalez said. "But I am happy to still shoot 2-under par on that course, and I am now thinking that 21-under par might be a winning score."
Fleetwood - 21 years younger than Gonzalez - is competing in just his second full season on the European Tour. In 51 appearances he has recorded only three top-10s with sixth at the 2012 South Africa Open his highest finish.
Despite Fleetwood's sloppy finish, the 277th ranked golfer is quietly confident of a first Tour success.
"Overall it felt good out there today and I hit the ball nicely but when I did hit it bad I managed to get myself out of trouble," Fleetwood said. "It's been a long time since I led a golf tournament going into the last round and it couldn't be any better."
Sweden's Fredrik Andersson-Hed also started birdie-eagle in a 66 to be a shot back on 15-under as he targets a first success in three years.
Scotland's Stephen Gallacher shot the best round of the day - an 8-under 64 - to tie for fourth with Austrian Bernd Wiesberger (72).
Gallacher won the 2013 Dubai Desert Classic and is looking to become the fifth player to win two European Tour events this year.
However, the 38-year old Scot was lucky to take his place in the field after revealing he injured his back last weekend while washing his car.
"The greens are fantastic and it's a course where I have had a few low scores," Gallacher said.
