HYDERABAD: The state government's proposal not to hold any written exam for recruitment of village revenue officers (VROs) and village revenue assistants (VRAs) drew flak from the aspirants. They have been demanding the government to hold a written test for the posts instead of giving weightage to class X (VRAs) and Intermediate (VROs) marks and holding interviews for the remaining 15 per cent marks for recruitment. After the Cabinet subcommittee meeting held in Aug first week, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy said they were entrusting the responsibility to the district collectors and RDOs for filling up VRO and VRA posts respectively. The cabinet sub-committee has finalised Intermediate as educational qualification for VRO posts and Class X for VRA posts. The state government has also announced that they would give 85 per cent weightage to the marks scored in the examinations i.e Intermediate and class X to VROs and VRAs respectively. However, the state government did not issue any official notification till date to fill about 9,000 posts as promised by Raghuveera Reddy.Meanwhile, some local leaders have been allegedly collecting amounts ranging between Rs 4-5 lakh (VRO posts) and Rs 2-3 lakh (VRA posts) from the aspirants promising them to provide jobs. Speaking to Express, a Group-II aspirant from Anantapur district, B Ramanjaneya Reddy, said that giving weightage to Class X and Inter marks was not fair as students of private schools would score better marks than those from government schools.
