Govvernment may buy sarees from weavers

BELGAUM: Textiles Minister Varthur Prakash assured that he will respond to problems of the weavers within 15 days. He told the Belgaum District Nekarara Vedike that  he will consider the demand for purchasing sarees from the weavers in the state under the Bhagyalaxmi scheme. Vedike president Bhujang Bhandari urged the Minister to simplify the procedure to sanction loans at 3 per cent interst rate for weavers.The facilities provided to the workers of the unorganised sector should also be extended to  poor weavers, he demanded. Vedike Secretary Parashuram Dhage appealed for the establishment of a textile market complex in Belgaum on the lines of Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC).He instructed the district police to nab the miscreants who destroyed the statue of Sangolli Rayanna at Tadasalur village recently.At a meeting held with the district officials on Monday, he instructed the administration to take precautionary measures to avoid such incidents in future.
