Gudiya's reel story faces roadblocks
Gudiya's husband Arif objects to actress Divya Dutta's plans on making a film on their story.

Bagpat: The reel life take on Arif and Gudiya seems to be taking all the turns that their real life took.

Mohammad Arif, the army jawan who came back from a prison in Pakistan to find his wife Gudiya married off to another man, has now warned to seek legal help to get the film on his wife, who died in January this year, banned.

Actress Divya Dutta, who is making the movie Kahani Gudiya Ki and is also playing its lead role, says she wanted to let the world hear "the voice of Gudiya", which remained muted all through the ordeals she bore.

She says the film, which she wanted to show to Gudiya, will now be presented as a shraddhanjali (tribute) to the 26-year-old who died in a Delhi hospital on January 2 this year.

Opposing Divya's plans, Arif said neither the director nor the producer had sought his permission before going ahead with the project.

He said he would knock the doors of the court to get the film banned.

Gudia's story had enthralled the media for over an year from the time Arif was freed from the prison in September 2004 till her death.

Her family had married her off to Toufiq after Arif went missing during the Kargil war.

After Arif returned, a religious court asked her to go back to him, deeming her marriage with Toufiq "illegal".

What's your reaction?
