MYSORE: Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, which only recently had witnessed a drought-like situation, received heavy rains in the last two days.Normal life in H D Kote, parts of Chamarajanagar and villages in Srirangapatna, Mandya district, was thrown out of gear.H D Kote taluk received 102.4 mm rain, followed by T Narsipur (26.8 mm), Periyapatna (43 mm) and Varuna.As cotton and paddy crops in more than 50 acres were damaged when water from the Chunchamalli tank overflowed.Villagers are in a state of shock as the tank and lakes in neighbouring villages overflowed in just two hours.Development works, such as metalling of roads under various schemes in H D Kote town, too, were affected.More than 60 houses were inundated in Vodendahalli in Srirangapatna as the Gobaragala tank breached and entered the Chikka Devaraya Canal.Houses in low-lying areas of H D Kote were inundated.MLC Mallikarjunappa visited the village and extended financial support to the affected families.Irrigation department officials have stopped the release of water into the CDS canal and inpsected the affected area.Chikmagalur district too received rains on Monday.
