Former Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde expressed dissatisfaction over the action taken by the government on his report on illegal mining.
Speaking to Express on the sidelines of a function held here on Sunday, he said, “There is still a long way to go. But at least the SC has taken cognisance of the report and that the CBI is investigating.” It may be recalled that the Shettar government had accepted the report by the Former justice.
In a state assembly session held recently, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had said that his Government has initiated the process of action against 257 State Government officials along with five senior IAS officers and an IFS officer named in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
The CM had also mentioned that no protection or shielding would be given to any of the officers who figured in the report for isconduct. However, opposition leaders had questioned the “acceptance” as no concrete action had been taken.
Justice Hegde also said that he is yet to go through the report submitted by the high-level committee, led by Additional Chief Secretary K Jairaj, constituted to study the Lokayukta report on illegal mining involving state officials. “But the action taken so far is far from concrete,” lamented the former Lokayukta.
