Kolkata: With a star-studded turnout, comprising the whose-who of Tollywood, ace director Srijit Mukherji's new film 'Hemlock Society', having a theme of suicide workshop but in effect celebrating life over death, was premiered at a city plex tonight.
"I had seen both the rushes and the movie after the editor's cut and I knew how it will mark a new phase in the annals of contemporary Bengali films," Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who had featured in the two earlier works of the director, said before the show began.
"The film is unique in every sense.....the concept ....the treatment and yet sticking to a story line and executing that," film diva Moonmoon Sen said after the premier of 'Hemlock', produced by Venkatesh Films, was over.
'Kahaani' actor Indraneil Sengupta, who had featured in Srijit's first film 'Autograph' that had created box-office history, described the overall execution as 'brilliant'.
"I must say Param (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) and Koel (Mallick) had been marvellous in the film. This was Param's first solo lead after many years and Koel, she had not been seen in such roles or films for a long time. She had simply been very very spontaneous," the director said.
Hemlock Society tells the story of a man who runs a workshop where lessons are given on how to commit suicide successfully, his tryst with a self-obsessed girl. The workshop has on its roll professors who demonstrate fail-safe methods in committing suicide.
The idea was derived from an organisation promoting suicide in US in the 80s.
