Chandigarh: Indian Hockey team had reportedly demanded Rs 5 crore to play in a charity match.
The team allegedly demanded the money from the match organisers just a few hours before a charity match against film and TV stars.
"All this while they told us that they would come and play but today they refused. They are blackmailing us and asking Rs 5 crore to play," claims match organiser.
However, Prabhjot Singh, one of the senior-most player in the Indian hockey team, rubbished the allegations saying there was no truth in the reports of the team asking for Rs 5 crore to play in the match.
"We don't know why these allegations are been made. The match is for the promotion of hockey. We have never made such demands," says Singh.
The team was scheduled to play Bollywood and TV stars in Chandigarh on Saturday.
Moreover, questions are also being raised about the timing of the charity match, slated as it is just a week before the Hockey World Cup starts in New Delhi.
